SPECIAL CASE
Pin implant with more yielding lower jaw

A special load condition (200N on tooth II + 200N on tooth IV) was studied in a particular model using exactly the same pin implant but modifying the lower jaw, making it more yielding; Young’s module of the cortical bone in the new model was reduced to 8000 MPa, compared to the previous value of 11000 MPa.
This model was created because, in the light of experience, pin implants produce better clinical results if inserted in a structure that is not particularly rigid.
The following sections report the distributions of both tensions and deformations on the upper part of the cortical bone.

Vertical load of 200N on tooth II + Vertical load of 200N on tooth IV

- DISTRIBUTION OF DEFORMATIONS

A comparison with the results obtained from the previous model, also subject to a vertical load of 400N, shows that:

- the deformations present in the more yielding model, along both X and Y, are greater than in the base model;
- on the other hand, both compressive and tensile stress is reduced.
